Comment: I grew up in stoke in the 80's but always come to mow cop! topday (12/2/08) with my 3 and they were facinated!! its such a shame that because of local yobs we cant get into the castle as they had such high hopes for the magical castle! I remember as soon as 20 years ago ( i feel so old) my brother and I played inside this castle and climbed on the rocks around and today I felt so sad that there was anti vandal spikes around the castle what an age the last 20 years have brought!! We love MowCop

Comment: I have lived in the rookery for 25yrs 15 with my late wife Susan and two children Chris and Gemma both who have grown up and left the area after university.When they return they always visit Mow Cop. It's like a magnet.The views to the west take in the Cheshire Plain,the Wrekin in Shropshire and the hills of Bolton. To the east the views look to the Roaches with Biddulph nestled in the valley just below Mow. To the south is Stoke and to the north the Pennine range. Absolutly Priceless.

Comment: I 'm researching my family history. My mother Doris Harding nee Simpkin was born and brought up in Mow Cop. My grandmother Minnie Simpkin nee Biddulph was brought up at the Mow Cop Inn. I am trying to trace my great grandmother Mary Elizabeth Biddulph born round 1869 who appeared to have several husbands! I 'm having no success tracking her through census records. Are there any Biddulphs, Simpkins or Whittakers out there who could help me?

Comment: I am the Gt Grandson of 'Clocker' Goodwin a famous local pigeon racer, and my parents were landlords of the Globe Inn many years ago, so I consider myself a real son of the area. Comment: Does anyone have any information/photographs of local football teams from the 1930's? My father, Harold Booth, played for Bank Athletic. I am presuming that there were several teams in Mow Cop? Any information would be gratefully received.Thank you.

Brilliant website that you have!
I visited Mow Cop yesterday and what a wonderful place it is! The people were so polite! I'm not used to it living in a big city! (Lancaster)
My ancestors were the Pointons and the Hammonds and my g,g,g grandparents Timothy Hammond and Mary Pointon lived at Pointons farm. (given to them by Mary's father Henry Pointon)
We are also related to the Lawtons and the Doorbars.
Anyone else related to these people?

I lived in the area until 1958 and am a family history researcher.

Comment: I have two death announcement cards.FRANK HARDING AGE 14 and HILDA BOWKER age 16 both are interred at St Lukes church Mow Cop.Does anyone link these? I was born an OAKDEN and have links with FOSTER and KIRKHAM and GALLIMORE can anyone help with any history?!!
