Comment: Hi, I just discovered that one of my great-grandmother's sisters, Louise Nusske, married to Daniel J. Buchwitz, died in Elgin on Dec.6, 1954. She was 95. Arthur Flegel, in his book "Extended Relationships of the Kulm, Leipzig, Tarutino Communities in Bessarabia, Russia" (2005) lists children: Daniel, John, Emilie Schaible, Rudolph and Bertha Pahl. Are any descendants around Elgin today? Another sister married Daniel Weller and lived at New Leipzig. I have lots of family info and old photos.Ho

Comment: Saw the house my dad built for sale on the net. Read the National Geographic article on the emptying prairie. Should bring my 4 kids back to ND to help out. Am coming up this summer. Will visit places like Marmarth and the old opera house there. Lapp's kuchen factory in Hebron and other places I will find. There are very few ND small town pages on the net. Comment: After watching many family reunion videos from 10-12 years ago I have found out that many of my family have coem fromt his town. If anyone is a member of the Eslinger family (Delbert Eslinger is my grandad- also related to Bill&Louella Eslinger and Doug&Pat Eslinger to name a few) I would love to hear from you.

Comment: My husband and I enjoyed spending some time in Elgin during the recent community days celebration. We were impressed with the wonderful variety of activities available for kids and adults. With such a small local population, everyone must have pulled together for this celebration. We enjoyed lunch at the community center,especially the delicious pies.
Everyone should be proud of your community.

I'm Erla's (Ella Hummel)youngest daughter, Kathy. Also Katie Hillius's (Hummel-Bader maiden name)grand-daughter. I have a 17 year old son now, Alex Devlin and plan on taking him on a road trip to learn to drive. Back home to Elgin is a great lesson. Simply need to plan it well for the road conditions and temperatures. We're thinking Spring Break 2008 (April). I might even buy a home to retire early and have a small business in there myself (age 50 now), a few more
