Comment: Fascinating stuff. Can I ask you, are you aware of Milton Rokeach's work in the 60s on this subject? His book "The Open and Closed Mind" would probably interest you greatly.
And a trivial point, but on page 30, "They also discover they can discretely put some of their region’s wealth into their own pockets" should read "They also discover they can discreetly put some of their region’s wealth into their own pockets" -- unless they're pilfering separate and clearly distinguishab

Comment: Nice work, Dr. Bob. I'm looking forward to the next chapters.
I wonder if your studies have shown an increase in authoritarianism in response to outside threats, either real, perceived, or cynically created by the power elite? (I think I've disclosed my point of view.....).
And, did you do any studies or analysis of the differences (if any) in authoritarianism between urban/rural; socio-economic class; educational attainment; region (Texas vs. Vermont)?

Comment: Wow. Chapter 1 is amazing. This whole (easily frightened, selfish, empathy-free) authoritarian mindset is so foreign to me as a liberal but I recognize it in others. The question is: what can we do about these folks who are so susceptible to it? I expect the answers will come later in the book.
I am anxiuosly awaiting the next chapters. Thank you so much for doing this for the "reality-based" Americans. A much needed education from a terrific teacher.

Comment: As for "reversing" high RWAs, that may well-nigh be impossible. Their beliefs have very deep roots that, we shall see, usually go back to their childhoods, and are more important to them than anything else. Still, there are things, we shall again see, that can be done to keep authoritarians from having the powerful influence they have now. And many should be interested in achieving this, including conservatives who are not authoritarians --who have had their political party of choice hi-jacked

Comment: Thanks for your comments. I truly appreciate them, and hope this site will become a center for discussion of the things I have found, etc. I encourage all to put in their two cents worth, and that includes criticisms as well as the observation that I haven't wasted my life studying this.

Comment: Enjoyed the first chapter and am looking forward to the next one. I scored very low on the test, but I suspect that I have some RWA tendencies because I hate them so much! I found the Global Change Game experiments to be especially interesting. What a great way to explore and demonstrate the consequences of the RWA mindset! I'd love to see an expanded version of that, perhaps in the form of some massively multiplayer online game (MMOG).

Comment: Wonderful! I can't wait to hear what makes people into RWA-enhanced individuals. But the question that is raised and isn't answered is: is there any way to reverse that process? Please say there's hope!
