Comment: Sonny was my friend; with that being said, I don’t think anyone who ever met Sonny would feel any different.
He touched so many lives with his words of encouragement and inspired so many of us to look deep inside ourselves to capture the spirit of places we so often photographed. It goes without saying he meant a lot to me personally. He seemed to be bigger than the disease he fought against. Courage, vision, and seeing the very best in others – this is his legacy to me.

Comment: Sonny…my mentor, my friend. My memories will always be of a kind, selfless, optimistic, talented, gentle man who taught me, through example, as much about life and living as he taught me about photography. There are only a few people in a generation as special as Sonny and I am fortunate to have know and been friends with one of the best. Because he was my mentor I hope you will always see a bit of Sonny in my photography. I know he always will be there.

Comment: Sonny was a wonderful and warm individual. I met him in 1997 when I worked as the Governor's Photographer. He too at one time was a Governor's photographer and so we had a lot in common. Sonny was very inspirational and always had kind words of encouragement. I miss the days he would visit the State Photo Lab and share stories and WV Magazine layouts with us before they went to print. I will miss Sonny and his gentle spirit. His love for photography and for life will live on through his images

Comment: I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Sonny Hyde. Rob and I have been great friends since the old VT days. I was so fortunate to spend a few days with Sonny during a ski trip with Rob at Canaan Valley. I will never forget the stories he would tell and his great sense of humor. I also got to hold the camera that has taken some of the most beautiful pictures a person will ever see. That will be something to tell my gradkids about. I hope to talk to you soon Rob.I'm following your trainin

Comment: Though I have known Sonny & Teresa for many years, the past three years as their next door neighbor have been full of treasured moments. As their dog (Choco) and my dog (Max) were fast friends, Sonny and I would walk them often. The dogs would play and Sonny would always tell me stories. His storytelling was captivating and told through his artist 's eye. Of course, woven into each tale was evidence of how proud he was of his daughter, his wife, friend or relative and the love he had for them

Comment: I’ll miss Uncle Sonny so much. I’ll miss his smiles and laughter, his stories, his endless supply of factoids, and that mischievous look he would get when he was up to no good.
Uncle Sonny has always been my role model. Sonny will live on in me-- my sense of humor, my love of the outdoors. When I have children, I plan on delighting and terrorizing them with stories, making them laugh, and being their best friend… although they won’t know Sonny, he will touch their lives as well.

Comment: I loved Sonny's photographs and have all his beautiful books of West Virginia. Sonny WAS Wonderful West Virginia Magazine. (I sam him at a WV Purchasing Division bid opening for the magazine and we were talking - we couldn't figure out why anyone else would even want to bid on it).
Sonny was the kindest person you would ever meet - always soft spoken and insightful. I will miss him and his beautiful pictures.

Comment: I called him "Hyde" and that's how he always wanted it to be. He was the Army Photographer and I was his pilot. We soared above the clouds, skimned over tree tops, and through his eyes captured the wonders of Europe on film. Often, he would join my family as we enjoyed the cultural and historical sights of Germany. He was unique and lived life to its fullest. He made the blind see the God given beauty of this earth. He and Teresa were an exceptional "team" to be admired. God's speed good f

Comment: One of my favorite visuals of Sonny is when he would go into one of his hysterical laughing fits! While the story was always funny, it was listening to him laugh that really got me going.
I wanted to thank you all again for your generous donations - Sonny and Teresa have been touched by the response from all of you.
