Comment: Hi Andy
Funnily enough I also did AEF from Filton, and a gliding course at 622 Old Sarum (1974)- and I also went to Shobdon, but was parachuting there (76-77)! At 622 I did my solo flights in a Sedburgh (T21). Interestingly although it is a different colour scheme I found a free card model of a T-21b at this site http://www.cardmodels.de/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=26&Itemid=81

Comment: Currently a member of the Wednesday team showing visitors over GBOAF (216) at Filton. First became acquanted with Concorde when in 1959 at RAF Lyneham on 99 Sqdn. Used to go to Filton as a aircrew member to pick up Britannia a/c.
If aircraft not ready, would be taken on visit of BRAB Hanger. Inside was the plywood mock up of of the then known SST. This fuselage now resided in Bristol Collection Museum at Kemble. Must keep the memory alive of Concordeand all Filton built aircraft.

Comment: In 1970 I was working with SAA at Jan ***ts Airport. It was there that I had the privilege of flying in Concorde, I believe it was 002. At that time I was one of a number of British passport holders "expats" and we approached Brian Trubshaw for a ride. It was all a bit hush hush because the aircraft was doing trials (touch and goes) at high al***ude airports (Jan ***ts is 5,000')and it was off limits to all except VVIP's. Anyway we got our flight,10 touch and go's and 30 mins local flying.

Comment: Interesting read! I have a memory of the Brabazon flying over back gardens in St George, Bristol - about 1951-2. Is this possible?

Comment: Very interesting site. I was brought up in Patchway, left for Canada in 1965. However I was taken to watch the Brabazon's inaugaral flight in 48. Just to let people know it took off long before the end of the runway. Maybe there was need to remove the village ofCharlton after all.

Comment: Andy great site, found it when looking back at my similar gliding history! I now work at Old Sarum Airfield and went solo as a CCF Air Cadet at 17 over at RAF Upavon [now Army] in the early 80's after a respectable 23min of instruction :) Currently I hold a PPL so if you ever want a trip skyward in a PA28 let me know!

Comment: Hi Andy,
interesting site, well done!
Whereas your interest is aeroplanes, mine is military vehicles (though I do still like warplanes, especially WWII) So I was intrigued to see that you learnt to drive in a Land-Rover at Old Sarum in the 1970s. It's just that I have a 1969 ex-RAF airportable Land-Rover that served at Old Sarum with 622 Glider School, reg. no. 99 AA 51. Ring any bells? You could well have driven it! If so, please be in touch, especially if you have a picture! Regards, -Roger
