Comment: I spent the last 9 months of my service duty in Pearl Harbor aboard the fleet tug USS Lipan. I was in port when the New Jersey stop on her way over to Viet Nam in 1968 and paid her respect to the many ships and men lost on Dec. 7.

Comment: I wasn't around when this happened.
But I was saddened by the sensless loss of human life. The Men who died that day were around my age, and that is a bit scary.
To all those brave souls Rest in Peice

Comment: I just returned from vacation in Hawaii a little over 2 weeks ago. I stayed at the Navy Lodge on Ford Island. On the first full day there, I went to the USS Utah. As I was taking pictures, an Admirals Barge came along side. I saw a Sailor in dress whites run up on deck, and then heard "Attention to Port". Next was "Hand Salute". I took pictures of that right away. I think I have the best picture I've ever taken. It says one very important thing: The Navy will never for get the Utah

Comment: My Uncle - James A. Lewis - was a 19 year old sailor above the Utah. He survived.
I am proud of my Uncle James. He is presently 82 years old and residing in Topeka, Kansas, where he is in an assistant living home.
Through the power of the internet - I just today - Christmas eve 2004 - found this site and saw my Uncle James ' name listed as a survivor.
Thank you for this great rememberance.

Comment: I am a retired ITC, presently volunteering time on the USS Missouri restoring antennas. I gladly took the time to drive to the other side of Ford Island to pay tribute to the USS Utah. I hope that others take the time to drive to the "forgotten side" of the island to do the same.
