Comment: It was great to see of my uncle's ( Charles O. Ives) friends and family from the Utah Last May at the reunion. My family noticed the Gilbert Meyer was interviewed last week for the Dec. 7, 2005 visit to Pearl Harbor. I am glad to see the USS Utah finally get more exposure for all its efforts to our country.

Comment: THE MEMORIAL IS VERY MOVING ESPECIALLY THE IMPRESSION OF QUIET AND ISOLATION. IT SHOULD BE BETTER ACKNOWLEGED IN PLACES WHERE THE OTHER MEMORIALS ARE GIVEN THE LARGER AMOUNT OF SPACE. THE DEDICATION OF ALL WHO SERVED AND DIED ARE EQUAL. MAY GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

Comment: My father, Robert Harrison Sumners (1923-1999), joined the Navy in June of 1941, and was on the USS Utah on 7December1941. He was the drummer on the ship's jazz band. That morning he was still in his bunk when the bombing started...by the time he awoke and made his way to the deck, the ship was listing heavily, having been torpedoed, so he crawled up the sloping deck, with Zeroes strafing, then jumped off of the ship and swam to safety, hiding in ditches on Ford Island as the attack continued.

Comment: My Grandfather, Melvin Scott served on the Utah, My great uncle, Ralph Scott died on the Utah. I had never seen a picture of them so young as they are in the pictures posted on this site. The photos on this site have never been seen by anyone in my family and now we are all curious where they came from. This is a great site, thank you for maintaining it.
