Comment: My father, Capt FN Cooke, was a a 3rd Army field surgeon during WW II. He died last year and rarely spoke of his war experiences. I would like to find out more. I know he landed at Utah or Omaha on D-day plus 2 or 3 weeks. Eventually he wound up in Czechoslovakia. A patch he wore on his uniform looks very similar to the 5th Armor's patch. If you have any info, please email me.

Comment: I am trying to locate some information about my uncle Corporal Harry Cooper who was with the 81st tank batallion. He was killed near Trier in Germany early in 1944. I understand he died of head wounds which was characteristic of the wounds tankers received. His body was left behind when the unit pulled back and was not recovered until March of 1945 in a shallow grave. Any additional information would be appreciated.

Comment: My father in law, Edward Rowekamp, was in the 5th Armored Division. We laid him to rest Friday. He was truly one of a dying breed. He never spoke of his WWII experiences, and would only answer direct questions reluctantly. I know he was proud of the flag that draped his casket that day. His legacy is with is now, and will be as long as we have freedom on American soil. We cherish his memory, and honor h

Comment: I finally really looked through my dads war journal to note the specifics, and he, Frank Schlachter, was a member of the 15th Armored Infantry Division of the 5th Armored Division and crossed the Roer in late Feb of 45. There are about 40 pages of written material if anyone is interested!

Comment: My wife's uncle SSgt Leroy A. Olson of Madison, MN was killed with the 46th AIB in France. I note a Spencer A. Olson from Madison, MN on the HQ company roster. Madison MN had a population of 1000 during WW II so I doubt that there were really two Olsons in the 46. Did anyone know either of these guys?
