Comment: Although all the sites were closed by the time I got on the scene, the remnents were still quite visible on the mountain tops and bare tundra in 1995-96. At Anvil Mountain, rack upon rack of vacuum tube equipment was still in place, slowly deteriorating in the arctic environment. At Barter Island we had to topple and scrap the atnennas as they interferred with the satelite signal. I served in the Air Force at Elmendorf overseeing contractor compliance at the long range radar sites in '95-'9

Comment: I was the commander of the Army element stationed at Nek Lake, that operated the little known link from there to Eklutna. There there three army troops assigned, initially operating an AN/MRC 69 link, later replaced in 1968 with an AN/TRC 90 link.

Comment: Looking at the comments in the Guestbook, I note many many names I'm familiar with. I worked WACS from 1960-70, stayed on with RCA as ALASCOM, retired from PTI when sold to AT&T in 1996, and can you imagine, still with AT&T (47th year in ANC) Was sad to hear the passing of ANdy Cowan, Ab Karim and Ernie Garner.. Knew those boys well.
For all of you old WACS guys, stay well and happy!

Comment: I used to be at Granite Mt., during 1967-68. I left to go with GE on the Spacetrack Radar at Shemya. Should have stayed at GMT. Really liked it there. Our cook's name was Herman Marzoff, site super was Ed Maxey.
