FAQ/Help Page

When e-mailing Customer Service, always include your account number (contained in your TheGuestbook.com link) and the URL (Web address) where your TheGuestbook is linked.

Q: What happened to my guestbook?

A: Our members are always suggesting ways to improve our TheGuestbook.com service. In order to respond to those suggestions and continue developing TheGuestbook.com, we have decided to offer TheGuestbook.com Premium Edition and eliminate the free service, effective October 15, 2003.

Q: What is a Trial Guestbook?

A: You can try out TheGuestbook with all the current features, but only the first 10 messages will be displayed. After the first 10 messages you will need to Upgrade to a Premium Membership for U.S. $9.95 per year.

Q: I have forgotten my account number and password. What do I do?

A: Go to Password Look-up and enter the e-mail address of your account. The password will then be sent to the e-mail address on record for that account. If the account by e-mail address is not found, please send a request Customer Service with the account number (contained in your TheGuestbook link) and e-mail address (or account owner name) used to set up the account, and we will look up that information for you. For security reasons, you must provide this appropriate information before we will release account details to you. Ideally, you should be e-mailing a password request from the same e-mail address that you used to set up the account. PLEASE try the "Password Look-up" page first! The more time that we spend looking up passwords, the less time that we can spend improving TheGuestbook.

Q: How do I install TheGuestbook code on my page?

A: The "code" is simply a link like any other, except that it contains your account number. When you sign up your account, suggested "code" is displayed. You simply paste this code into your HTML file at the point where you want the link to appear. You may 'wrap' the link code around an image of your choosing, if you would like. Below is the sample code. Be sure to replace both the "000000"s in the links with your own account number.
<!-- Start TheGuestbook.com code -->
<p align="center">
<b>[<a href="http://www.theguestbook.com/sign.php/000000" title="Sign My Guestbook">Sign My Guestbook</a>] - [<a href="http://www.theguestbook.com/read.php/000000" title="Read My Guestbook">Read My Guestbook</a>]</b><br />
<font size="1">[Guestbook by <a target="_top" href="http://www.theguestbook.com" title="TheGuestbook.com">TheGuestbook.com</a>]
</font>
</p>
<!-- End TheGuestbook.com code -->

You can also get this code with your account number from the "Install HTML" page of the member area.

Q: Someone left an offensive message on my TheGuestbook. Can you remove it?

A: You can remove unwanted messages by logging into your account and using the "Management Controls" feature. The Guestbook owner is responsible for monitoring and managing their Guestbook.

Q: Is there anything I can do to prevent users from leaving offensive messages in my Guestbook in the future?

A: Yes, you can turn on the Profanity Filter! The Profanity Filter replaces curse or obscene words with asterisks, so you won't have to worry about family members or friends seeing obscene material in your TheGuestbook.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of messages TheGuestbook will store?

A: Yes. TheGuestbook will store and display a maximum of 10 messages per page and a maximum of 50 pages total. It is your responsibility to remove messages to make way for new messages when you are reaching your maximum allowance. If you have a trial Guestbook, only 10 messages will be stored and displayed. You will need to Upgrade to see 11+ messages.

Q: Can I get the IP address of a person who left an offensive message?

A: Every message left by guests in your website includes the IP address of the poster, right next to the guest's name.

If you are seeking additional information pertaining to Web site visitors accessing your TheGuestbook, please direct all questions to the Jupitermedia Corporation legal department.

Be sure to include all of the information that you have about the offensive message (date, time of posting, etc.), as well as the message itself.

Q: Right now guests can use HTML within their messages, but I'd like to stop them from doing that. How can I do that?

A: You can use our HTML Filtering feature to do that. It allows you to disable HTML use in your guestbook posts.

Q: How can I add my own images to my guestbook? How many am I allowed to use?

A: You can use two of your own images on your guestbook pages, one at the top, and one at the bottom. Additionally, you can use your own images within your own (externally referenced) header or footer. Note that you'll need to host these images on your own server or web host, and point to them using the complete URL (i.e. http://www.mysite.com/images/myimage.gif ).

Q: Can I block the IP address of users who leave offensive or unwanted messages?

A: Yes, you can block up to 20 IP addresses from using your TheGuestbook using our IP Blocking feature!

Q: Can I allow guests to leave me private messages--i.e. messages that only I can check and read?

A: Yes, using our Private Message feature, guests leaving a message can check a checkbox to make the message private! Only the administrator of a TheGuestbook can read the message!

Q: I have a "header" and "footer" that I'd like to use on my TheGuestbook so it looks more like the rest of my site. How can I do that?

A: You can use your own HTML or text "header" (i.e. the portion of the page above the body) or "footer" (i.e. the portion of the page below the body) by referencing your own footer or header using the complete URL for your header/footer, (i.e. http://www.mysite.com/header.html or http://www.mysite.com/header.txt ).

Q: What do I do if my questions is not answered on this page?

A: Send an e-mail to Customer Service,. Be sure to include your account number, which is contained in your TheGuestbook link, and the URL (Web address) to your site.
